How a Pinball Machine Works
If you are like me, you have probably countless hours on pinball machines without knowing how exactly it works. While the design and themes of pinball machines have changed over time, the backbone has remained the same. One of the oldest pieces of a pinball machine that is still used today is the plunger, which is used to launch the ball into the playfield. It is basically a spring-loaded rod. While the majority of the modern pinball machines still use this, some of the newer ones have an electronic plunger, which is called a solenoid. Another important piece of the pinball machine is the playfield. This is the area where the ball hits the targets and objects for points. The playfield is set an incline (usually 3 to 8 degrees), which allows gravity to pull the ball down. The player would then need to use the flippers to keep hitting the ball back up. The flippers are the prongs that you control which hit the ball. They allow you to keep the balls in play to score points. Some of the newer pinball machines have extra sets of flippers higher on the playfield, which are controlled with the same buttons. Pinball machines today have lots of fun features to keep the user entertained. There are certain objectives where someone must perform several actions in a row, there are ramps which will take your ball and spit it out elsewhere, and on many pinball machines extra balls will come into play when you reach a certain amount of points. Pinball machines have been around for quite some time and are still fun to play. I hope this gives you a better look into how exactly a pinball machine works. |
