In fact, there were so many Xbox 360's with hardware failure, Microsoft had to extend the warranty of the system by 3 years for anyone who experienced hardware failure with their Xbox 360. You can tell if you have a hardware failure by looking at the 4 quadrants of lights around the power button. Different lights being lit up mean different things.
